If you're a high school or college student, posting on Snapchat, Instagram, or TikTok is likely second nature to you. You've literally grown up in the digital age. Your parents may have warned you not to post anything lewd, and you probably thought they were overreacting. But your social media posts may come back to bite you when it's time to fill out college admission applications.
Don't let your social media posts cast an unfavorable light on your college dreams. Stand up and fight for your future. Contact the Student Defense Team at the Lento Law Firm at 888.535.3686 or through our online form, and let us help you clear your name and get into the school of your dreams.
According to a new Kaplan Study, two-thirds of college admissions officers surveyed said they believe checking an applicant's social media posts to learn more about them is “fair game” to help them decide whether an applicant should be accepted. The results represent a 10% increase compared to five years ago, when 57% said it was OK to spy on applicants' posts to learn more about them.
Unfortunately, this point of view has resulted in some students missing out on the colleges of their choice. In 2017, the prestigious Harvard University withdrew 10 acceptances over concerns about applicants' hate speech and sexually explicit memes posted on their social media. Three years later, a newly admitted University of Tennessee student withdrew after being pressured by admissions officers who had discovered a Snapchat video of the student that included a racial slur.
