Students admitted to the UCLA School of Dentistry can’t help but foresee a professional future brighter than the golden hue of the football team’s helmets. An academic misconduct allegation can darken that vision more dramatically than a pair of Ray-Bans, making the student feel as if they’ve been told every one of their teeth has a cavity.
We’re not making light of the situation you face. We are quite serious, in fact, because we know just how much dental students stand to gain—or lose—on the back of their academic and behavioral records. Instead, trust in the LLF National Law Firm. We defend students of all stripes, including the high-achieving dreamers who populate the hallways of UCLA Dentistry.

What Does UCLA School of Dentistry Consider to Be Academic Misconduct?
Entering dental school can make you feel like a cub trying to catch their first salmon. The stakes are high, there are endless distractions and variables to keep under control, and the slightest missteps can doom the entire exercise. It’s no surprise that many students accused of academic misconduct are totally unaware that they’ve committed a UCLA-prohibited infraction by:
-
Fabricating, which could plausibly happen if the student does not understand just how strict UCLA Dentistry is in its research and citation guidelines
-
Submitting multiple submissions, which a student might do unintentionally (by mistakenly uploading the wrong file) or because of stress-related memory issues, misreading of instructions, or other mistakes
-
Plagiarism, which often occurs when students do not know precisely what does and does not constitute the unethical borrowing of others’ ideas and information
-
Facilitating academic honesty, which could include honest efforts to assist fellow dental students in reaching their own academic goals
Then, there are cases where stressed-out dental students act contrary to their character and make regrettable mistakes. These mistakes are more widely known as academically dishonest (and expressly prohibited by UCLA’s Student Conduct Code), and include:
-
Passing off others’ work as one’s own
-
Using unauthorized materials or resources during examinations
-
Relying on artificial intelligence to generate work that the student was expected to create on their own
Even when it seems like a UCLA School of Dentistry Student has committed a cut-and-dry infraction, that’s not always the case. Even if you have committed a conscious act of misconduct, you are entitled to seek leniency and defend yourself from overzealous discipline.
Once a Dentistry Student Is Accused of Academic Misconduct, What Happens Next?
The UCLA Student Code of Conduct applies to dentistry students, and that Code’s procedures for adjudicating misconduct allegations are:
-
The person who reports the allegation generally does so by notifying the Office of Student Conduct
-
The student receives an emailed notice that an allegation of academic dishonesty has been leveled against them
-
The accused student is then expected to schedule an appointment with the assigned Dean
-
The Dean will explain the allegations, answer the student’s questions, and get the student’s account of events
-
If the student admits wrongdoing (which we advise against), the Dean can enforce sanctions
-
If the student does not accept responsibility, the administrative review process can be resolved through several channels, including having the Student Conduct Committee handle the matter (typically via a hearing)
If a student is accused of Research Misconduct, their case will be adjudicated by a Research Integrity Officer (RIO). If the RIO determines it is warranted, an Investigation Committee will collaborate with the RIO, ultimately sending their recommendation about sanctions to the Dean.

Fail a course, have to remediate academic work, and suffer other outcomes that immediately impact your academic record
-
Have to endure a suspension, leave of absence, or even an expulsion—outcomes that will be Dumbo-sized elephants in the room in discussions with academic admissions boards and prospective employers
