Capella University Third Party Academic Policy Dismissals

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Apr 27, 2023 | 0 Comments

Students in Capella University programs at all levels have been receiving notices of academic dismissal under the university's Academic Honesty and Integrity Policy. The notices allege “academic submissions completed and submitted by a third party on your behalf.” The notices outright dismiss the students without further proceedings, allegedly for violating Capella University Policy 3.01.01 on Academic Integrity and Honesty.

If you have received a Capella University notice of dismissal for an unauthorized third-party submission on your behalf, retain the Lento Law Firm's Student Defense Team and national education attorney advisor Joseph D. Lento to pursue your Capella University appeal. Call 888.535.3686 or go online now to preserve and protect your investment in your Capella University education against academic misconduct charges.

Capella University Academic Integrity and Honesty

Capella University's Academic Honesty and Integrity Policy governs when school officials allege your violation of its academic integrity standards. The policy defines academic dishonesty, plagiarism, and the sanctions the university may impose against students who commit that academic misconduct. Sanctions are generally progressive, from rejected work or a failing or lowered grade all the way up to suspension or dismissal for the most serious violations.

Capella University Third Party Academic Policy

Capella University's Academic Honesty and Integrity Policy clearly prohibits unauthorized third-party submissions on a student's behalf: “Except for such authorized and referenced collaboration set forth above, the preparation and/or submission of any academic work by any third-party person or organization is expressly prohibited.” The university's charge doesn't mean you did it. You may not have violated the policy at all because your instructor authorized or failed to prohibit third-party involvement, or your work may have been your own.

Immediate Dismissal Violates Capella University Procedures

Immediate dismissal without a hearing also violates Capella University's own academic misconduct procedures. Capella University's Academic Honesty and Integrity Policy clearly requires the university to give you a chance to explain and refute the third-party submission charge: “the university official directly associated with the course or activity will notify the learner of the alleged academic dishonesty in writing, and the learner will be given the opportunity to explain or refute the allegation.”

Immediate Dismissal May Be the Wrong Sanction

Capella's third-party submission policy generally authorizes suspension, not dismissal: “In addition to any other sanctions under this policy, where the university reasonably suspects a learner's use of any third party to prepare and/or submit academic work, the university may immediately suspend such learner's access to Capella course rooms and systems pending investigation and resolution of the alleged violation of this policy.”

Retain Premier Defense Representation

Don't let Capella University dismiss you on a simple notice, alleging unauthorized third-party submission on your behalf, without providing you with appropriate protective procedures. Your submissions may have been perfectly legitimate or made under a misunderstanding, or dismissal may be an entirely unnecessary, disproportionate, and unfair sanction. Retain the Lento Law Firm's Student Defense Team and national education attorney advisor Joseph D. Lento for your Capella University dismissal appeal.
