Can You Be Disciplined by Your School for Your OnlyFans Account?

Posted by Joseph D. Lento | Feb 06, 2024 | 0 Comments

It's not unusual to read news stories about college students using OnlyFans to provide them with income while they attend school. The online service allows content creators of all types to charge subscribers for monthly access to the creator's OnlyFans account. While an OnlyFans content creator can be an author, musician, artist, or chef, the platform has earned a reputation as a source for adult-oriented images and videos. If you're a student who is posting adult-oriented content to your OnlyFans site, and your school has taken disciplinary action against you for doing so, contact the Lento Law Firm Student Defense Team for help. You can reach us at 888.535.3686 or use our contact form to set up a confidential consultation.

OnlyFans and College Students

OnlyFans provides a way for a content creator to make their content available to paying subscribers across the globe. There are reportedly more than 2 million content creators and more than 200 million registered users on the OnlyFans platform. Users need to be 18 or older to have an account.

It's not unusual to find college students posting adult content on OnlyFans. Some report earning thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars per month from their OnlyFans account page. OnlyFans creators can interact with subscribers and may charge individual subscribers for personal messages, private interaction sessions, and additional content beyond what is posted on their OnlyFans page for subscribers to view.

OnlyFans and College Misconduct

While many colleges and universities appear to tolerate students posting adult content to OnlyFans, there are a number of situations where doing so could land the student in trouble with their school.

  • Private Colleges or Universities. These schools may have moral codes that students agree to follow when they enroll. Those codes may forbid a wide range of activities that are otherwise permissible, such as premarital sex, unmarried couples living together, and publicly sharing adult content.
  • Use of School Facilities. If the content is posted that was created using school resources (such as a school photo lab), or that uses identifiable areas of the school (a stadium or the library, for example), the school may attempt to discipline the student as a result – not because of the content that was created, but for the unauthorized use of the school facilities.
  • Use of School Intellectual Property. Posting images with school mascots or logos that are then used to generate income for the student could violate the school's intellectual property rights and the school's code of conduct with respect to how students can or cannot use mascots or logos to make money.
  • Violations of Anti-Pornography Codes. Some schools specifically prohibit students from viewing or posting pornography, which could be used to discipline an OnlyFans content creator or subscriber who posts or accesses OnlyFans content (whether the school's Internet connection is used or not).
