Looking to “crush your schoolwork?” Who isn’t? It’s a masterful pitch by the brains behind Brainly, but does such a promise lead students into trouble and potentially irreparable consequences?

We have seen far too many AI-related disciplinary cases to doubt it.

That being said, students who use Brainly—or are accused of it—can cite the platform’s tutor-like features as reasons for leniency in the disciplinary process. Students who use Brainly get guidance from actual humans andartificial intelligence. This hybrid format should be more palatable to educators concerned about students using AI solely for cheating, but that won’t be true in every case.

If you or your student is facing possible discipline related to Brainly, hire the team that has secured life-changing results time and again for students who find themselves in the eye of a brewing disciplinary storm. Brainly Brings Tutors and AI Together to Students’ Benefit (or, Potentially, Their Detriment)

On its face, there is nothing malicious about Brainly. The platform does not profess to help students cheat. In fact, several of Brainly’s most prominent features have not only been present in the school system—but encouraged by educators—for decades.

Brainly helps students:

  • Learn on the fly: The platform’s AI underpinning generates “instant answers” that the student can use to learn on the fly. Rather than having to call a fellow student or wade through YouTube tutorials, they can get the answer they seek right away, helping them absorb lessons as efficiently as possible.
  • Contact tutors (affordably): For a few bucks a month, Brainly users get access to “unlimited 24/7 support,” even promising “1:1 live expert chat.” When access to a tutor is often inconvenient, unaffordable, or both, Brainly’s cost-effective, hyper-convenient alternative has obvious appeal.
  • Verify their answers: Some might see Brainly’s “instant answers” feature as a potential way for students to cheat. However, the feature could just as likely be used as a way for students to verify their answers without having to ask their teacher. This ability could ramp up the learning process, as students would not have to wait until the next day to find out if they had retained their lessons.
  • Create personalized study plans: Another valuable feature of the Brainly platform is AI-powered test prep. Students can create customized study plans that they can then use to prepare for quizzes and examinations, taking tutoring to the next logical progression.

Considering Brainly’s affordability and the countless students who either cannot access a tutor or are hesitant to ask for help, it seems unthinkable that schools would not green-light this resource. Yet, many will dismiss Brainly as yet another AI resource that would be used primarily—if not exclusively—to help students earn strong marks without doing the learning.

No Matter How You Utilized Brainly—or If You Did—Educators Might Sanction You

Whenever our Student Defense Team encounters a student accused of using artificial intelligence in violation of school policy, we must categorize them in two primary ways:

  1. Students who used the resource in question (in this case, Brainly)
  2. Students who are accused of using the resource, but did not

Our team has helped many students within each of these categories. If you did use Brainly, it is possible that:

  • Even if you used Brainly in a permissible way (like to create a lesson plan), school administrators have assumed that you used it in an impermissible way
  • You are being victimized by an overly general anti-AI policy that prohibits behavior that is entirely ethical (like using one of Brainly’s human tutors)
  • You were not aware of any anti-Brainly policy that is now being held against you

These are all circumstances our team has encountered before. With a strategic, personalized approach, these circumstances can be overcome.

There is also the latter circumstance, in which you are being accused of using Brainly (or another AI-generated resource) even though you did not. This might happen because a professor saw Brainly on your computer, other students you are associated with have been caught using Brainly, or for other reasons.

False allegations of academic misconduct occur with astounding regularity. Not a single false allegation should be dismissed—they must be fought, so let our Student Defense Team fight yours.

Don’t Leave Your Defense Up to Chance

There is no shortage of reasons why students suffer life-changing discipline they do not deserve. Sometimes educators think they are in the right by disciplining a student. In other cases, personal vendettas against a student lead to unfair outcomes. Then, there are many instances where students simply do not receive the due process they deserve.

You would be making a mistake if you:

  • Assumed that you would receive due process, rather than allowing us to demand it
  • Believe that any prior interactions you have had with school faculty—including positive ones—will mirror the experience you will have this time around
  • Put too much trust in those making disciplinary decisions to be unbiased, rational, and respectful of your rights

Any time you are accused of violating academic policies, or there is an inkling that you may have, you must take your defense into your own hands.
