Academic Progression Challenges

ERAU Prescott holds its students to high standards of academic excellence. Students who struggle to meet the school's academic progression requirements may jeopardize their enrollment.

Academic Warning

An ERAU Prescott student with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of less than 2.0 for one term receives an academic warning. A student on academic warning can only register for 15 credit hours, and they must retake any class in which they received an F.

Students placed on academic warning may complete any flight course in which they are enrolled; however, they cannot enroll in any subsequent flight course until they return to good standing.

Academic Probation

ERAU Prescott will place a student whose cumulative GPA is less than 2.0 for two consecutive terms on academic probation. Additionally, any student with a single-term GPA of less than 1.0 will be placed on academic probation.

ERAU Prescott students on academic probation are not in good standing. A student not in good standing may not serve as an elected member of the student government, participate in intercollegiate athletics, or serve on the editorial staff of a school publication.

Any student placed on academic probation will be immediately grounded in any flight course in which they are enrolled. The student can resume their flight course after they return to good standing.

A first-semester student with a term GPA of less than 1.0 must work with their program coordinator before registering for additional courses.

Academic Suspension

ERAU Prescott will suspend a student on academic probation who receives a term GPA below 2.0. A student on academic probation who receives a term GPA greater than 2.0 and the student's cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 will remain on academic probation.

An ERAU Prescott will also suspend a student with an academic warning who has a subsequent term GPA of less than 1.0.

Academic Dismissal

Academic dismissal is a permanent action taken by ERAU Prescott when a student fails to make appropriate academic progress. ERAU Prescott will not readmit a student with an academic dismissal.

A student who has been suspended and readmitted is on probationary status until their cumulative grade point average increases to 2.0. ERAU Prescott will dismiss the student if their term GPA falls below 2.0 during the probationary period.

ERAU Prescott will also dismiss a student who has been suspended and restored to good standing but whose academic performance subsequently deteriorates.

Academic progression challenges are based on a student's grade point average. The term and cumulative GPA requirements are an objective standard. There may be some ability to negotiate a better outcome if you believe your course grades are incorrect or you have an instructor willing to support your academic efforts and reconsider a borderline grade.

The Lento Law Firm Education Law Team can partner with you to ensure every possible effort is made to strengthen and protect your academic progression. Because academic progression is essential to your success at ERAU Prescott, our experienced attorneys can work at your side, protecting your education and career objectives.

Federal Financial Aid and the Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress

Federal regulations require that students who receive federal financial meet specific academic progress standards. ERAU Prescott's Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy explains the grade point average and credit hour requirements to maintain eligibility for federal financial aid.

For an undergraduate student to make adequate progress and remain in good standing for financial aid eligibility, they must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0.

Additionally, the SAPs require that students complete their program at a specific minimum pace. ERAU Prescott students may not take more than 1.5 times (or 150%) of the number of required credit hours to complete their program. For example, a student should complete a two-year degree in no longer than three years.

Financial Aid Suspension

ERAU Prescott will place any student who does not satisfy the SAP on a Financial Aid Suspension. A student on suspension cannot receive federal or institutional aid.

If extenuating circumstances contributed to a student's failure to meet the SPAs, they may wish to appeal their suspension. If the appeal is successful, financial aid will be reinstated; however, the student will be on academic probation for one term. At the end of your probation, you must meet ERAU Prescott's SAP standards to qualify for further federal funding.

The Lento Law Firm Education Law Team can work with you to prepare information and evidence to prove extenuating circumstances and appeal an SAP suspension.

SAP Reinstatement

If you have lost your federal financial aid, you can reestablish your eligibility by continuing your studies and meeting the SAP. Importantly, you will be paying tuition at your expense and without financial aid.

The Lento Law Firm's experienced education law attorneys can partner with you to address SAP concerns, strategize about appeal options, and ensure every effort is made to keep you on track to graduate.
